State & Congressional Summaries
From governors, attorneys general, and state legislators to chief state school officers, education advocates, and academics, there is a growing movement to fix the No Child Left Behind law's expensive rules and regulations. Communities for Quality Education has identified efforts in all 50 states to fix the federal law since 2003.
The actions taken to fix No Child Left Behind range from demands in state legislatures for the money to pay for the costs, to calls for exemptions from particular federal regulations. Some have now even filed lawsuits challenging the unfunded costs that are passed on to local schools and taxpayers that are specifically prohibited by the law.
